Problems of capillaries

Refrigeration circuits with integrated capillaries are typically very compact. The capillary is usually difficult for the designer to access. Furthermore, the refrigerant charge in such circuits is very small. For a variety of reasons, it is impractical to determine the capillary length iteratively by installing and removing capillaries of varying lengths and diameters.

  • Ensuring consistent refrigerant charge after capillary replacement

  • Risk of leakage after replacing the capillary

 

The capillary tool as a solution

We addressed these various challenges by developing the capillary tool. This tool allows the restriction level of the capillary to be changed in several stages while the refrigeration circuit is running, without requiring any modifications. This offers several advantages for the developer:

– Internal heat exchanger

– Fill quantity and

– Routing path

  • Minimal parasitic influence on the experiment

– The determined capillary flow rate and fill volumes can be used in the next development phase.

The Solution

After a six-month testing and optimization phase, we were able to achieve our requirement of 300 W with a refrigerant charge of approximately 100 g. The charge charge is particularly crucial for future device developments using natural refrigerants.

We have achieved our stated goal of offering the autocascade approach for customer projects. We are continuously working to further develop our expertise in this area and explore its potential applications. This cycle allows us to fulfill ambitious requirements. Learning how to implement it was one of the most challenging experiences since ThermodynamX was founded.
