✨ Why Swissmem SEMI – and why now?

 

With our new membership in the Swissmem Industrial Sector Semiconductors (SEMI), we are already receiving the first questions:

“Why ThermodynamX – and why Semiconductor?”

 

The answer is simple:

Because hardly any other industry is so highly innovative – and at the same time is facing a massive upheaval when it comes to cooling.

 

In February 2026, the EU published an implementing regulation granting the semiconductor industry a temporary exemption from F-gas limits for certain chiller applications.

This exemption will apply from 1 January 2027 until the end of 2029 – as a transitional period, because no fully suitable alternatives are currently available for some applications.

This is exactly where we would like to get involved – with a focus on:

 

Sustainable cooling solutions with natural refrigerants

 

System Architecture & Standards Competence

 

Series production capability & industrialization

 

Consulting & Engineering where standard solutions reach their limits


There is a particular focus on natural refrigerants such as:
CO₂ (R744)

R290 (propane)


We don’t see this as a “free pass”, but as a clear signal:

 

👉 The market needs more specialized engineering expertise for sustainable chiller and temperature control solutions.
